On Mexico’s Pacific Coast lies a rugged oasis with beautiful beaches, rocky cliffs, incredible biodiversity and, of course, luxury – you guessed it, it’s Los Cabos! Isabelle Racicot, TV and radio host from Montreal, Québec, headed to this popular destination with her two sons (aged 18 and 21) on a Sunwing all inclusive family vacation at Paradisus Los Cabos Adults Only and got every bit of fun in the sun out of her week in paradise. From the food (that could be a blog all its own) to the on-site activities and adventures outside the resort, Isabelle lays down the blueprint for how you can make Los Cabos your playground!

What was it like travelling with Sunwing Vacations?

It couldn’t have gone smoother! I loved having the user-friendly Sunwing app, where everything I need to travel is in one place, from our flight information to checking in online and booking excursions. We made sure to upgrade to Elite Plus and we were very surprised at how much legroom we got, not to mention the other perks like priority check-in and boarding! My son is 6’1” and he was very comfortable during the entire flight. It might not seem like much, but that extra space does make a difference! Once we got our bags and stepped out of the Los Cabos Airport, we were taken by private transfer directly to the hotel – a great way to start a relaxing getaway!

Tell us about your Los Cabos all inclusive experience

I always like staying at Meliá Hotels & Resorts properties and Paradisus Los Cabos Adults Only is right up there as one of the best resorts in Los Cabos, and one of my personal favourites! They are a very customer-focused company and that was made even more clear in The Reserve section of the resort where we stayed. This adults only section is the way to go if you want to feel even more like a VIP. Our personal Concierge, Christina was amazing – she booked all of our restaurant reservations, suggested activities for my sons, secured a cabana by the pool for us and was always so easy to reach. My sons and I had a very memorable chess game in the Reserve lounge, but we also loved just hanging by the pool, talking and playing cards.

Any other highlights from the resort you’d like to share?

Honestly, it has to be the food as we enjoyed everything we ate on property. We would start our days at Palapa, the exclusive restaurant in The Reserve section – try the Carajillo Café, it’s very good but maybe not for breakfast as it is made with alcohol! The Italian restaurant Capella was good and we looooooooved the shrimp tacos from the on-site food truck. If you’re going to Cielo, you need to get the guacamole – it was delicious. Finally, Gabi is great when you want a tasty bite served up with stunning views of the coast!

What were some of your favourite things to do in Los Cabos?

We loved our resort so much, but when visiting Los Cabos, you also have to make some time to venture out for the full Cabo experience. It feels so unique – part California, part Mexico and even a hint of Mediterranean. To any and every traveller interested, I would absolutely recommend the art walk in San Jose (on Thursdays at 6 p.m.)! Next, go to Taqueria El Paisa and try the food there, especially the delicious street-style carne asada tacos and the Al Pastor, some of my favourite tacos in Cabo San Lucas.

You should also check out some excursions – my boys chose one and I chose the other (let’s see if you can guess which!). We went off-roading on 4x4 buggies in the dunes. Both my sons got to drive as we ventured past the mountains and the beach, then capped it off with an authentic Mexican meal and a tequila tasting experience from our amazing guide. We also did the Land’s End Tour, something that everybody has told me to try and I’m glad we did! The boat tour gave us a different perspective of Los Cabos as we sailed to where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean and saw sea lions at El Arco. Next vacation, I’m visiting Todos Santos and trying a local birria restaurant!

Do you have a piece of advice for potential Los Cabos vacationers?
