A double take on destination weddings in 2024
We did it! We’ve got another year of trends, discoveries and milestones under our (garter) belts, and this year was just as exciting as the last. Here's a look back on some of what inspired us in 2024, from destination wedding locations and top trends to bringing out that wedding day glow with your personal style, unique ways to express your love and how our own Real Wedding couples showcased it all – everything you need to plan your own picture-perfect destination wedding next year.
Planning as easy as saying yes
After deciding you’re ready to dive into all things destination weddings, it’s important to know some hard and fast rules to make sure your event runs smoothly, and speaks to who you are as a couple. Our Dos and Don’ts blog touched on topics like embracing local culture, trialling your hair and makeup for the tropical heat and remembering to enjoy your big day – it’s all about making lasting memories, after all! A great way to make those memories is by hosting your own top-trending wedding your guests, and our 2024 Destination Wedding Trends saw some must-have wedding features like late-night bites, designated spaces at your venue for your loved ones to kick back and relax from the festivities, and a new spin on a classic guestbook. Your love is already acting the part, so make your wedding look it, too.
Love is always in style
Along with popular trends and how-to guides, our blog also unveiled the 11th edition of our Wedding Vacations by Sunwing magazine, where we partnered with some of our favourite Canadian brands who were ready to make destination wedding dreams come true. Montreal bridal boutique DIY helped brides of every style get inspired by their showstopping designs, ready to wow in the paradise of their choosing. The men of the hour had their moment in the spotlight as well, with our Best Dressed Grooms blog showing off patterned pocket squares, statement rings and cognac leather suspenders – this feature saw no shortage of class-act styling, and neither will you when you say “I do” to these accessories on your wedding day.
What to say, and how
A less-explored topic graced the pages of our blog this year – like how best to incorporate your love language into your nuptials. You and your partner have curated a loving union learning how to communicate with one another based on the love you wish to give and receive, from words of affirmation to acts of service, and this blog post was your go-to in ensuring your wedding day speaks your own unique language. What better way to display your feelings than with an intimate delivery of your vows? Our Real Weddings
Some of our favourite moments of this past year have been seeing Sunwing Weddings couples stand at their stunning beach altars, celebrate at sunset with their friends and family, and enjoy every love-filled moment in paradise. Dianne and Jason, who tied the knot at Azul Beach Resort Negril by Karisma tugged at our heartstrings, from their first date at a Toronto Blue Jays game to sharing cocktail coconuts branded with their initials and wedding date. How could we do a year-end recap without mentioning Caroline and Sébastien, our Wedding Vacations by Sunwing photo contest winners and a couple who, after 20 years of loving one another, finally exchanged vows during a ceremony that could not have spoken any truer to who they are as a union.
