Give resting beach face a whole new meaning
Who doesn’t love pulling up to paradise and parking that caboose on the beach without a care in the world and a drink in hand? That’s us no doubt, but sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone. If you’re looking to make your getaway more like an episode of Parts Unknown (shout out Anthony Bourdain), you might be surprised at the freedom an all inclusive vacation can offer. Whether you’re headed to Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Panama to explore off the beaten path, we can help you start your journey with activities that will have you re-thinking just how far an all inclusive getaway can take you!
It’s all about timing
Often, planning a vacation comes down to the when just as much as the where, and when the where is Cuba, when almost doesn’t matter! While it might be past Carnival season in the Caribbean, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a taste of what it’s like during your Cuba vacation! Check out the Museo de Carnaval in Santiago de Cuba and learn about the biggest shindig on this side of Rio de Janeiro with floats, effigies and the occasional folklórico dance show. If you want to get into the thick of a festival, head to Havana from April 22nd to the 28th for the Cuban Dance Festival and seven days of parties, workshops and dance tours – arriba!
Blend the thrill with the chill
A little adventure is good for the soul, and not many places do it like the Dominican Republic! Shake things up at Los Haitises National Park, a series of towering rock formations that was once a filming location for Jurassic Park and is home to tropical bird colonies, caves with centuries-old petroglyphs and pictographs. For a more rugged experience, get your heart racing at Scape Park or Bavaro Adventure Park in Punta Cana with activities like dune buggies, ziplining and unique nature experiences (ever been to a cenote?). If you’re a fan of the finer things, definitely check out Don Lucas Cigars, one of the highest quality, small scale hand-rolled cigar makers and tour the Barcelo Rum Historical Center, sampling some goods and learning about rum’s local history.
Don’t be just another tourist
Mexico is another popular tourist destination, but you don’t have to limit yourself to a typical Cancun vacation. Why not try out a different destination and live like a local? One of the top things to do in Mexico is to eat your way across Cabo San Lucas, tasting everything from tacos (duh) to sopes, tortas and more! And what better way to work it all off than by taking a shelter dog from Los Cabos Humane Society for a walk – they’re always looking for volunteers to share the love! Take it a step further (or higher) by hiking Mt. Solomar with a group of dogs – the land is private property but a local named Enrique, who also owns a dog training centre, leads groups up the mountain with his furry companions.
Unlock a new destination
When you think of Panama, no doubt the first thing that springs to mind is the canal, and for good reason. Visiting this feat of engineering is one of our favourite things to do in Panama City, with huge container ships moving through its intricate locks. But we’ve got more reasons to love this pearl in Central America – where else can you explore a tropical rainforest and take in sweeping views of the city skyline, all in the same area code! That’s not the only mashup we love – Casco Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, lets you explore the past and present with colonial structures standing alongside regal new builds. During the day you can enjoy quiet exploration, but in the evenings the streets come alive with nightlife.
Do we have you thinking about all the getaway possibilities out there? Oh, the places you will go on an all inclusive vacation with Sunwing Vacations – you take care of the what and we’ll handle the how! Plus, why not take advantage of fantastic last-minute rates on April escapes?!
